Freddy’s Favourite 5: May Events Around Cornwall

Well, the weather is certainly on the change down here in the South West! Guests at our holiday parks in Cornwall have been making the most of the sunshine, exploring the amazing coastline and visiting local events around the County.

Speaking of events, I thought it'd be a good opportunity to do a Freddy's Favourite 5 Blog, letting you know what's happening around Cornwall this May...

Port Eliot Dog Festival | 07 May

Anyone visiting the area on a dog friendly holiday would be barking mad not to visit the Port Eliot Dog Festival and Whippets Tea Party.

Hosted in the stunning grounds of Port Eliot House, festival organisers are expecting another busy turnout, after more than seven hundred owners and their pooches supported the event last year.

For the dogs there will be some fun classes to enter, including 'Dog Who Looks Most Like Their Owner'!

There will also be a range of stalls setup, cream teas and refreshments, a treasure hunt and live music to keep the crowds entertained and tails wagging!

The Dog Festival will again be raising money to support Children's Hospice Southwest.

Eden Classic Cycle Ride | 08 May

Lots of our guests bring bikes on their Cornwall holidays, to explore the furthest corners of the county. If you're one of them, you might be interested in the Eden Classic Cycle Ride?

Cycling enthusiasts have the opportunity to take part in Eden's cycling sportive this May.

The mass participation event has a unique route compared to others, starting and finishing amongst the Eden Project's famous Mediterranean Biomes and Rainforest, taking in the stunning south Cornwall coast in-between.

Entrants have a choice of three routes, a shorter 35 miles, middle distance 62 mile course and a full 100 miles for the more experienced riders.

St Ives Food and Drink Festival | 14-15 May

A trip to one of the West Country's most popular towns is a must during your Cornwall holidays, so why not tie it in with the St Ives Food and Drink Festival?

Believed to be the only festival of its kind hosted on a beach, the St Ives Food & Drink Festival welcomes some of the county's top chefs and food drink producers for 2 days on Porthminster Beach.

Sample some of Cornwall's most celebrated produce, watch top chefs from the region prepare amazing dishes and take in a programme of live music and non-stop family fun.

Tunes In The Dunes | 27-29 May

Cornwall's freshest music event, Tunes in the Dunes, returns after an impressive debut year in 2015, and takes place just a stone's throw away from Perran View Holiday Park.

The stage is nestled next to the dunes on Perranporth Beach, overlooking the Atlantic Ocean - pretty awesome huh?!

So what's the line-up?

Headlining the Friday night is Mercury Prize and Brit Award winning rapper, Dizzee Rascal, and artists like Lethal Bizzle and Tinchy Stryder also on the bill. Saturday sees The Waterboys take to the stage and on Sunday Ella Eyre plays just before headliner James Morrison.

Fal River Festival | 30 May-05 June

The final event of my Favourite 5 is the Fal River Festival – one of the biggest and busiest events in the Cornwall calendar.

The Festival celebrates its 11th year in 2016, cementing itself as one of the longest serving festivals hosted in Cornwall.

You can join in with the pre-summer festivities during your caravan holidays in Cornwall, with 150 events planned over the 7 days.

100,000 people are expected at the festival, which celebrates the people, places, history, culture and sport of the River Fal. With its mixture of events, you'll be able to find an activity for each every member of the family.
