Get involved in National Parks Week by exploring Exmoor

How many of you taking caravan holidays in Devon next week know it's National Parks Week?

National Parks Week is the yearly celebration of everything that is unique and stunning about the UK's natural landscapes. This year the week falls between Monday 27th July and Sunday 2nd August and has been given the theme 'Landscapes of Plenty' – a nod to the fact these open expanses offer more than just a place to play and seek inspiration.

The closest to us here in North Devon is Exmoor National Park, and it plays host to a range of activities and events over the 7 days. So what's on and when?

Exmoor actually gets off to a false start, with activities kicking off on Saturday 25th rather than the 27th. If you want to get involved early too, there is a family walk and treasure hunt hosted by the West Somerset Mineral Line Association. The walk incorporates a trip to Beulah Chapel and Brendon village.

On Monday 27th July, Discover Porlock Walk is my personal pick of the bunch. You'll be joined by a Heritage Walk leader who will take you on a walk of discovery and history, learning all about Porlock Bay.

Some of you might have had the pleasure of visiting Lynton and the Valley of Rocks before, but do you know the history of Victorians and this landmark? You can find out on the Tuesday, during this 2.5 mile tour.

Wednesday 29th is Bogtastic Day, celebrating the qualities of Exmoor's wildlife, heritage and moorland. Alternatively you can visit the Combe Martin Seashore Safari for an educational spot of rock pooling!

Join Deer Ranger Charles Harding on 30th July to seek out Exmoor's beautiful deer and their calves.

Step into the twilight zone at 8pm on Friday, July 31 and join a National Park Ranger in scaling to the highest point on Exmoor – Dunkery Beacon. Watch the amazing sun set while look out for red deer.

Saturday 1st August gives you an opportunity to experience Arlington Court and the week closes on Sunday 2nd with a Family Fun Day at Wimbleball Lake – you can expect fun for all the family, games, stalls, music and even watersports!
