Kenny’s 5 favourite dog friendly pubs in North Devon

Dog friendly caravan parks, particularly in North Devon, have become an incredibly popular 'staycation' choice for people wanting to take their four-legged friends away with them – after all, dogs need holidays too right?!

I know it can be difficult to find information on everything dog friendly, so I've used my local knowledge to give you my 5 favourite dog friendly pubs close to John Fowler's North Devon holiday parks.

These all offer superb locations, hearty food and over everything else, a welcoming atmosphere.

The Red Barn

Located in the heart of Woolacombe is The Red Barn, a dog friendly and family run surf pub offering freshly cooked British food with a chilled out vibe.

The pub overlooks Woolacombe beach – the UK's 2nd and Europe's 7th best beach – which makes it the perfect pit stop after a long walk with your dog.

If your four-legged friend doesn't doze off to the relaxed tunes, the walk along the coast to Mortehoe is a stunning one. Take in the coves and rugged cliffs along the way and reward yourself with a real ale in one of the traditional pubs in Mortehoe.

Williams Arms

The Williams Arms is a family run, 16th century thatched free house situated just outside of Braunton.

The pub has built a reputation for one of the finest carveries in the West Country. Served every lunchtime and evening, there is an abundance of local meats and fresh seasonal vegetables.

A large patio and garden area is available for outside dining with your pet – dogs are also allowed in the bar.

Access to the historic Tarka Trail is just over the road, so you can burn off those Yorkshire puddings with a brisk stroll beside the estuary.

The Thatch

If you've visited North Devon on your dog friendly holidays before, you'll know all about The Thatch.

The Thatch | holidays with dogs

The Thatch is the hub of Croyde, offering local Devon and Exmoor produce, real ales, fine wines and bustling live entertainment.

With one the UK's most popular beaches on its doorstep and baggy point around the corner, there's no shortages of ways to tire your pooch out so you can enjoy the pub's famous beef chilli nachos in peace!

The Kings Arms

The small village of Georgeham, just outside of Croyde, plays host to the award-winning Kings Arms.

This pub is a must on your pet friendly holidays UK and encompasses everything dog friendly, with jars of biscuit treats and gravy bones at the end of the bar to reward good behaviour.

The pub's ambience has a really warm, special 'something' to it, creating a homely feel as soon as you step inside. The hospitality is genuine and atmosphere relaxed.

I'd highly recommend visiting early on Sunday to experience their 'Best Sunday Roast' – the title they won at the Devon Life Good Food & Drink Awards 2013.

The Hunters Inn

Set within the wild beauty of Exmoor and Heddon Valley is The Hunters Inn.

This unique, Swiss chalet style pub and surroundings are a dog walker's haven. The beach at Heddon Valley is just a mile away and there are stunning walks with an abundance of wildlife to discover.

A wide selection of locally sourced and freshly cooked dishes fill the menu, with several unique real ales available for the beer connoisseurs.
