Lonely Planet ranks the South West the 3rd best place to visit in Europe

The South West has placed third in Lonely Planet's 'Best in Europe 2014', a guide of the most irresistible places to visit in Europe this summer.

St Ives Beach | John Fowler Holidays

The global travel giant ranked the region above my native Italy, and I can't disagree after spending many caravan holidays in Cornwall.

Experts picked out the area's dramatic rural landscapes, picture-perfect villages and breathtaking coast to place the area above holiday heavyweights Spain, France and Italy.

The news comes at a time when visitors prepare to descend on caravan parks in Cornwall for what's set to be one of the hottest summers on record.

Here at John Fowler Holidays we're molto felice, very happy to see the local area recognised in such a high profile guide, just months after people feared the storm damage to the Dawlish rail line would negatively affect the summer season.

Lonely Planet, which has published 100 million books in nine languages, compiled a team of editors in London to put the list of countries and cities together.

The full 10...
